What does Wellness mean to you?

Hey are you Well?

What is Wellness and what does it mean to you?

Such a simple question…but how do you answer?

Straight way with
“Yes, I’m all good thanks”Normally just an instant reaction to the question without consideration maybe for how we are really. I’m not suggesting that we give everyone who asks a detailed description of how we are, but maybe for our own check in with ourselves… how am I?

We’re living in strange times, and I think the term “Wellness” has changed as we have had to change.
We have had to adapt our lives radically over the last 2 years in ways we could never have imagined.
So, for many of us Wellness has become more of a priority both physical and mental health.

Wellness is a broad church and can be interpreted in many different ways.
For my own Wellness its come to mean Mind Body and Soul in perfect balance.

When you go through your day feeling contented and happy without any dramas and without feeling that you are constantly under pressure from deadlines and requests. You get to the end of the day feeling that your time has been well spent … you re at peace and know that you will sleep well …for me that’s balance.
And I have been on the other side of this where there are so many demands and requests coming at you that you can’t breath. I remember days when I woke up and just wished that I could run away and not look back, just leave everything and everyone behind just for a few moments of peace.

With that experience I can now manage those days when it goes a bit “Pete Tong”.
Like everyone I have days that tip the balance so instead of wanting to run away, I just accept that its not ideal and realise that I did my best on that day. Tomorrow is a new day and an opportunity for a different outcome/result.
Obviously with age comes experience and here are a few tips that I’ve learnt along the way that can encourage those golden moments of balance

Be Organised – it does take time to plan your day, week, meals, playtime, personal appointments…
BUT it really does save time in the long run and means that the pressure is minimal
If you are “gifted” sometime unexpectedly if an appointment cancels and you find yourself with a Take the time as a gift and do something that makes you happy.
Sit in a chair and look out the window, just watch and let your mind relax
If you need to do something, tidy up a drawer or your desk. Nothing that takes longer than 20 minutes. Its minimal effort for a huge sense of satisfaction
Go for a mini sleep! Set your smart watch/phone for 20 mins and have a guilt free snooze. This time is enough to energise, but short enough that you don’t lose night-time sleep
Walk even if it’s just around the block it blows the cobwebs away
Enjoy a guilt free soak in the bath, having a soak in the middle of the afternoon feels very decadent. I did this a lot in lockdown!!
I hope that you found my tips useful and even if you just use one of the tips I hope that it helps your day run a bit more smoothly
I’d love to hear your ideas on Wellness and what it means to you. Lets share our tips and try and make our 2022 full of Wellness
